The short version. Pester stores your email address and the complaint you described, because it cannot write the letter otherwise. It shares that complaint with the company you are complaining about — that is the whole point — and with the four services that run it. It keeps the case for twelve months and then deletes it. Nothing is sold, and there is no advertising or tracking of any kind.
Who is responsible
Harvey Butters, trading as WinningBeans, is the data controller. Contact support@winningbeans.co.uk for anything on this page.
What is stored
- Your email address, and the name you give, so letters can be written in your name.
- For each case: the company, what you say happened, any evidence text you paste, what you want, and the amount.
- Every email sent and received about that case.
- A record of what was paid, from Lemon Squeezy. Not your card details — we never see those.
Photographs are not stored. If you photograph a bill or a letter, the picture is sent to Anthropic to be read, the text it found is shown to you, and the picture is then gone — it is never written to our database or to any disk. Only the text you choose to add ends up in your case, in your own words box, where you can change it. We keep a count of how many photos you have had read, and nothing else about them.
Pester is told to leave card numbers, PINs, dates of birth and similar out of what it reads back, and to warn you when it can see them — but the safest thing is still not to photograph them.
Please do not paste anything you do not need to. A complaint rarely needs your bank details, your date of birth or anyone's health information. If you have pasted something you regret, email us and we will remove it.
Why we are allowed to hold it
For a paid case: because we need it to perform the contract you bought. For a free draft: because you asked us to write it. For keeping records of what was sent: our legitimate interest in being able to show what happened if a company disputes it.
Who it is shared with
- The company you are complaining about. They receive the letters. That is the service.
- Supabase — hosts the database and handles sign-in. EU (London) region.
- Resend — sends and receives the email. EU (Ireland) region.
- Anthropic — the model that drafts letters and reads replies. Your case text is sent to it for that purpose and is not used to train models.
- Vercel — runs the website.
- Lemon Squeezy — takes the payment, as merchant of record.
Nothing is sold, rented or shared with anyone else. Some of these providers operate outside the UK; where they do, transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or equivalent safeguards.
How long it is kept
Twelve months from the day the case was opened, then deleted — a fixed clock you can count yourself, not a rolling one. Ask sooner and it goes sooner — see below. Records of payment are kept for six years because tax law requires it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of everything we hold about you;
- correct anything wrong;
- delete it;
- stop using it in a particular way, or object to us using it at all;
- hand it to you or another service in a portable form.
Email support@winningbeans.co.uk. It is free and we will do it within one month.
One honest limit: we can delete our copy, but we cannot unsend an email. Anything already sent to a company is in their hands and governed by their privacy policy.
Cookies
One cookie, which keeps you signed in. There is no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking, which is why Pester does not show you a cookie banner — it has nothing to ask you about.
If you are unhappy
Tell us first and we will try to fix it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
